Who We Are

Noperformingartscenter.com is a grassroots volunteer committee consisting of concerned Burnsville residents Timothy Ivers, Barry Wessman, Cliff Volkmann, Dave Erickson, Elwood Narum, Herm Kauls, Roger Foster and Vickie Loher, who are committed to an open, respectful dialogue regarding the proposed Burnsville Performing Arts Center which has an estimated total cost of $50,000,000.00, entirely funded at Burnsville taxpayer expense.  We are Democrats, Republicans, and Independents. We are Conservatives and Liberals, coming together to change the course of this huge financial burden that threatens our city.

What's New?

A call for candidates!  Are you interested in running for Mayor or a Burnsville City Council seat?  Give it some thought, and let us know if you are interested in becoming a candidate for these positions.  Go to the "Contact Us" portion of this website, and send us an email.  Tell us a little about you and your qualifications.  We're interested in meeting with people who want to make a change for the better in Burnsville.  We'd love to hear from you.

Too much on your plate to run for office?  That's ok too.  As the election nears, all we ask is that you check out the candidates running for positions in the City of Burnsville.  Ask questions.  See where they stand on the issues confronting OUR city.  Come out to vote on November 4, and remember that marking the ballot for an incumbent means voting for more of the same (and less in your wallet!).

We appreciate your support.  What can you do?  If you see a need that is not addressed in our city, call City Hall and make sure your needs are being met.  Tired of sitting in traffic on Nicollet Avenue en route to or from the transit station?  Call the council.  Put their number on your speed dial.  (It is: 952-895- 4403.)  When the Mayor comes to the transit station to campaign in 2008, be sure to ask her what she has done to improve the traffic situation in the area.

Ask the Mayor about our fire and rescue resources.  Have the budgets for these departments expanded as our population and its needs dramatically increased?  Are their resources stretched as response times have diminished due to lack of money to adequately fund the needs of our city?

Tired of potholes and patching on your street?  Tired of glass and debris remaining in intersections for days on end after a car accident?  Call your city.  Tired of cars speeding through your neighborhood?  Call your city.  Want your neighborhood park cleaned up?  Call your city.

If there is anything we have learned from this process, it is that communication is key, and the squeaky wheel gets the grease.

The Burnsville City Council has regular meetings at 7:00 p.m. on the first and third Mondays of each month, at City Hall, 100 Civic Center Parkway.

The first ten minutes of each regular City Council meeting is reserved for citizen comments about items that are not on the agenda.  Come to a meeting and see your City Government at work.  Register your opinion about the proposed Performing Arts Center with your city representatives.

The City Council has informal worksessions at 6:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday after the first Monday of each month.  These worksession meetings are not televised and quite often, important issues are discussed without the possibility of citizen input.  Come and watch your city government in action.

 Our Objectives:

We want you to know the facts.  Our objectives are to educate the citizens of Burnsville about the proposed Performing Arts Center, disseminate information about this ill-conceived project, hold the City Council accountable for their actions, and finally, encourage and empower citizens to speak out against this project.
